Description

This lesson plan is over the rules of “ei” and “ie.” Students will have a worksheet to do.

Goals

Students will learn:
To spell words that use “ei” and “ie.”

Materials Needed

The worksheet I have included in this lesson
Pencils and Erasers

Procedure

First, you will copy the worksheet so

that each student can have a copy.

Then you can explain to the students that “i” comes before “e.” For example, “believe.”

When you have a “c” in the word, then “e” comes before “i.” For example, “receive.”

There is an exception. If the word sounds like “a” such as in “weigh,” then “e” comes before “i.”

After the students understand the concept, then you can hand out the worksheet for them to do independently. Worksheet - Spelling Rules - Using “i and e”

Directions: Some of the words listed below are misspelled. Write the correct spelling in the blanks. If they are spelled correctly, write the word Correct in the blank.

Grading

There are four points for each word for a total of 100 points.

100 to 90 = A

89 to 80 = B

79 to 70 = C

69 to 60 = D

Below 60 = F
