Story Starters For Science Fiction Story

The students will be given some ideas for story starters that are related to Science. For example, one story starter might be: I developed a time machine that took me to the past.

They are to write a science fiction story and submit their papers to you for grading.

First, you will copy the worksheet I have included in this lesson so that each one will receive a copy. Then, you will explain to them that they are to choose one story starter and develop it into a science fiction story to submit for grading. Science fiction stories are stories that are fiction, but they use some aspects of science. For example, they might select a period of history and write a short story with them being the main character. They could develop something that would take them back to the past and describe what they see. They can use the worksheet for notes. They will need notebook paper to write their science fiction story.

Directions: Select one story starter from the list and develop a short story.

1. I found myself traveling back in time to the period of 1912. I stopped and wondered how I traveled back in time.

You can grade the students on how well they developed their science fiction story. You can also grade them on sentence structure, paragraph structure, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
