  • Please update records regarding Waltersville School. This is now a pk-8 public school. Waltersville test scores have been improving dramatically. The middle school ranked #8 overall in the State of CT in performance gains on the 2009 CMTs according to CONNCAM. The school is now equipped with SmartBoards in every classroom and the students are very involved in improving their community. The parents, teachers and principal at Waltersville are the students biggest advocates. Working together with the community is why Waltersville School is so successful. Gaps in learning, lack of materials/supplies and frequent transfers in and out presents major challenges for Waltersville. Readers must understand that low test scores are not always a result of poor teaching. Many factors contribute to low test scores. If you were a wonderful teacher how long would you stay in a district where teachers alone are blamed for poor student performance? This is exactly why Bridgeport keeps losing it's best teachers.
