  • Coming from WI where school are consistently top rated in the nation, this one is so/so.
The Principal is really good, but the secretaries are rude and won't lift a finger when your trying to make an appointment with the principal, leaving you with no other choice but to hunt staff and principals down on your own. Teachers are quick to respond to emails and have always been great to work with!
I do not know how they place students, but I found placement to be their weakness. My kid went from being incorrectly placed into a math remedial class, to a regular class, then as I saw she was ahead I pushed to have her placed into advanced math. Their advanced math seems to be a great fit for her, and her teacher is amazing!
They have advanced English, and although my kid ranked above average in all English tests and holds above 97% in class I have found it difficult to get her moved into advanced English. I have been working on it for over a month and was told that their regular English vs their advanced is not much of a difference. Which I think is a failure on their part. I was told that perhaps we can get her in after the holidays, till then she holds a 100% in her regular class and is irritated by being stuck with a bunch of trouble makers who do not want to be in the class. She normally has all of her work complete for the week by mid week and is bored and pretty unhappy there. So rough going until next semester. Hopefully I can get her into the advanced class soon.
A strong part of this school is the extracurricular activities. They have an excellent band with a very dedicated instructor when I hear their band play, I think I am hearing a high school band! Anyhow this is my opinion as a parent, in comparison to nearby schools such as Rock Island and Davenport, this school does have them beat, however Bettendorf still holds the best rankings out of all districts.
