  • Well first of all, combining north and south has nothing to do with the school being the way it is. I lived on the south side and ther were so many hispanic gangs around you couldnt walk into a building without seeing a tag. I lived on the south side and I attended southport high school. I was an A honor roll student and i was shot at for my shoes. This occured on the south side and the kids were white. The last statement seemed to say that when u mix black kids with white kids then you have these problems. That is very in accurate because no matter where you live, things like what i experienced happen on a daily basis. Southport is a great school. Every school has flaws, but at least they make the best of what they do have. Class of 09

  • I was just reading the review from a former student and they seemed pretty upset and were not happy with the education they received. I just want to say from a parent's perspective that school is what you make it. If you don't happen to attend the "prettiest" school or there are gangs, etc. it is ultimately YOUR choice to make it better. The person who wrote the review unfortunately didn't learn how to spell...and usually spelling is covered from grades K-8 as well as high school, so it seems their school life may not have been the best because they were not performing their best. My son is doing extremely well at Soughport...in fact he has learning difficulties and the school and it's counselors have been nothing but supportive and upbeat. The reviewer called Southport a ghetto school. Ghetto school? Hardly! You don't know what it's like in the real world yet...hang on the world gets tough. You have to deal with people who are not as intelligent, not as privileged, not good as you think you are, so you should prepare to be disappointed in life if you choose negativity when there is amazing opportunity going on around you.

  • This School is one of the worst high schools I have ever seen before. Unfortuneatley, southport, and marion county in general is full of people who dont make good money, therefor the school has very little tax money to spend on better resources, classrooms, teachers, and programs for students. When I went there, I couldnt focus on my school work because everything around me was falling apart. Students who attent a ghetto school, will act in a ghetto manner. There are gangs and groups of people who act like delinquits. If you love your child you will not let them attend this school.
