  • Im a senior at this school and i am in the dance troupe. Our teachers are the best!(Ms.Mesh,Mr.Curtis,Ms. Bramwell,Ms.Williams,Ms.Casmier,and so much more) In dance we go on so many trips, two of the major trips are Disney, and Pittsfield. These 3 years have been great!

  • The Susan B. Anthony Academy is truely The Home of Scholars and Champions. Being in this school for 3 years and graduating from the Class of 2010 I now look back and think of the things that actually helped me graduate. Some teachers, deans, and AP's are more motivational and caring than others but overall they've done a good job so far. The Dance Theatre Troop is very disciplined and talented thanks to Mr. John Curtis, Ms. Joan Mesh, and all the rest of the dance staff. Mr. Gates is one of the best principals that I have seen and had. He takes whatever action nessecary and cares about his students. The dress code is tolerable from a student's point of view because you are allowed to wear any colour shirt, once it has a white collar and kahki pants or skirt. The only thing that I must negatively comment on is the 'no hoodie' rule; my opinion is that it makes no sense at all. Overall, I.S. 238 is one of the best Intermediate Schools in district 29 and I highly reccomend it to any parent for your child. They will be safe and will graduate as Eagles and Scholars.

  • Had relocated back to NY from Florida and did research for my child to attend a good public school and As a parent, I feel this school is one of the best because Mr. Gates as the principal is an on hands principal who cares for all of his students and also shows them discipline and respect and gives the student his time to listen. Also, Mr. Barkin is absolutely great..!!!! Security guards are also very involved with the children's safety and trust me they dont play!!! Just want to Thank them for making my daughter and I feel safe, comfortable and assured that she was going to get the best education and attention here....GO S.B.A. #1 in my book!!

  • It may seem as picture perfect as these students claim, and parents would like to send their kids here, but a horrible place for students. Teachers and staff members swear and are very unreasonable. The hygiene is pretty poor, and teachers (which they are not supposed to do) tell students what to put on their surveys to make the school seem good. Another thing is that students don't get to choose their own programs. At the beginning of the year, they choose what floor every student has to be on, and it isn't fair. The first floor students aren't allowed to participate in the school plays. Some students don't get to have music, others don't have technology, and some art. kids on the first floor only have art. It would also be nice if the teachers cared more and actually did anything about the kids their. Grading is kind of fair. Mr. Gates is not the ideal principal. I'm disappointed in this school.

  • I am outraged with some of the teachers and deans at this school. They constantly call for the smallest matters because they do not want to deal with it, and these are things they were trained for. The deans remove the child from his classroom and place him where ever, without any of the teachers or assistant principal of that floor knowing anything(are the deans running the school?) I have had teachers and deans constantly verbally abuse my child. They have a program called AIP(in house detention) The child is placed here for sometimes the smallest matters for 3-5 days during school time. Which means he has lost all this class time, no one cares about the class work that has been lost, meanwhile he returns to his class a week later, the teacher gives a test and the child does poorly. I thought detention was after school hours as punishment? Teachers blatantly say to you they do not want to teach your child or even want to see the child's face in their classroom, then the child is removed, no one knows where he should go, so he is left to sit for hours sometimes all day in the deans office until some one figures out what to do.

  • i think the security needs improvement because last year around June some kid came into the school with a pepper spray can and the whole school had to be evacuated. Also one time some student got stabbed in his own class by some crazy kid with a sharpener blade
