  • i do not feel like there is open communication between the parent and the school system. i do not fault the teachers,i believe they themselves are doing an excellent job with working with the children. what i think is much to be desired is the lack of consideration the principal and superintendent has towards illnesses that children get at this time of year. it seems to me as if the school system is to busy with the attendance records than the health issue of a sick child. a letter in the mail is apparently more acceptable to communicate with a parent than having to actually verbally speak to the parents to see how the child is. as a parent i would like to be able to know that when my child is sick the school system would be a lot more understanding and if they have a question they may contact me by phone or by person, instead of sending out a rude letter and then finding justification by stating they want docs. notice. um i don't know what other parents reactions would be,but it makes me feel like my child can't get sick and if he does then i have to deal with getting a docs. notice first.(who is the child and who is the adult) and who gives the principal and the superintendent the right to be above the parents decision when it comes to their health? and then to be threatened that if your child misses too many days of school(for an illness) then they will turn you into the o'brien county attorney. (WOW!!) my son has been chronically ill since we moved here. and i am well aware how many days of school he has missed. i didn't realize how non understanding the school system is and i did not realize that i myself would not be treated with respect and dignity. if anything i felt defensive and felt like i was a child getting reprimanded for doing something wrong. so to the parents- make sure that your child does not get ill with the flu or have ear problems or any other medical excuse b/c the people that should be concerned about the welfare of all the children will be more so focused on attendance than of their well being. (this is a matter of my opinion)and talking verbally is not an action that is done consistently or considerately.
