  • To the person complaining that they banned Fahrenheit 451, just do what I did when I went there and any books were banned -- go to the library (and yes, F451 is in there as are lots of other banned books, including one that defines treason, which this isn't, btw)! The library is the most underused place in the entire school. I read everything in there (not much, but hey, we were poor) and that helped me more at university than any "teaching" ever did. If you live in that county and have actually heard of that book, just keep reading and educate yourself! Don't wait around to be spoon-fed like the rest of the sheep or you'll never escape.

Since this is a review, I'll just say it sounds like things haven't changed much. This is a rural school in an extremely poor county, so resources are minimal and expectations are low. The teachers are struggling with low salaries and no resources or support, while the majority of students have parents that don't care if their kids get an education as long as they're out of the house and getting a free lunch for the day.

Admittedly, most of the teachers are just marking time to get a steady paycheck, but there are a few teachers who do care and who do sacrifice to help those few students who want to better themselves, so hats off to those teachers who help students in spite of the lack of support from administrators and parents.
