  • The school has changed a lot over the past two years. As a parent I am very disappointed that the KCSD has not hired any teachers of color who are tenure track. This school is different because of its location supposedly. The cultural and ethnic diversity of students is limited. The nurse, secretary and Mrs. Bell (1st Grade teacher) are some of their greatest assets.

Academically, the basics are covered, but students who excel are not challenged. There are limited opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular school based activities. I would hope that recent changes in the district will re-disperse the student body, expand the culture and ethnicity by hiring teachers of color. In my opinion, a lot of complacency with regard to federal requirements with regard to diversity and/or affirmative action? How do they get away with it? or why do we let them.

Strong parental presence yet when there are real issues there seems to be one group of parents who are influential. If you are not an integral part of this clique than your opinions and/or suggestions are barely noticed.

My daughter is the only student of color in her class. When a peer told her that he hated Obama "because he's Black", she was devastated. Rifton educators need Professional Development that includes the rest of the world.
