  • I am deeply impressed with the pre-k/k program at Montessori School 27. My son entered pre-k at 3 years old not knowing how to read or write. He couldn't even recognize the letters of the alphabet. By the age of 4, he was reading, writing, and spelling. He is five years old now and is able to send text messages, write emails, and use the internet. He can also read books silently to himself and understand the material within these books. He is an above average reader. This level of literacy is due to the full day pre-k/k program at PS 27.
It is amazing to see what our children are capable of when there is a high expectation level. This is so essential in a world where technology is rapidly progressing.
Our children would greatly suffer if pre-k was taken away and the k's were reduced to a half a day of school. Our children learn the most during the first five years of their lives. Please, let's not hurt our children or our community by depriving them of their right: an education!

  • Pre-k is essential to child development. It lays the foundation for learning. I cannot imagine running a school district without it. I hope that we can all work together to reach a compromise that benefits everyone. These are hard times for our city but we must make education a priority.

  • Our four year old daughter has done and continues to perform remarkably well at Montessori 27. She started out Pre-kindergarten not knowing how to read, write and spell and currently she is doing all of those things. She recently got her library card just because of knowing how to spell and write her first and last name. As a working mother, I feel safe having her in a nurturing environment
with well experienced and dedicated teachers. It would be devastating to loose full P-kindergarten and Kindergarten. Children are the ones who would be greatly affected. They are our future so let's invest in them a good start of getting a quality education.
