  • Let me tell you about Shikellamy, all 4 of my kids have or do go there two of them are above average the other two below... For the 2 above average no issues BUT and yes that's a huge but the other 2 we have had nothing but either pass along to the next grade, meeting after meeting fight after fight to get the extra help we needed because no one and I mean no one wanted to take the time to teach and I mean really break it down and teach my kids .. I must say my one graduated 2 yrs ago and I am so happy he even went to tech for computers... But now I have the other one coming along and every year back to the high school. I must make sure she gets the help she needs...

  • You can't judge the entire school by some idiot jerks who can't take anything seriously and actually try to pass the PSSAs. I know for a fact that i have passed every PSSA with at least a proficent. I get proficient in Math, and Math is my worst subject. I know there are alot of people who can do the smae results, too. It's rediculous that i get looked down on because i attend Shik, and we have students who can't be responsible for at least 2 hours a day to try and get their school's reputation up.

  • This school is now on the verge of State Education Department take over due to the repeated failures to meet AYP including a poor graduation rate for several years.

"Shikellamy High, the only school in the region and among only 2 percent of schools in the state facing "Corrective Action 1," met only eight of 13 categories that plot progress under the No Child Left Behind Act. Only "Corrective Action 2" is a worse designation." Daily Item.com

The state report showed Shikellamy High's graduation rate fell more than 5 percent, to 78.8 percent, compared with the 2007-2008 academic year.

Only 45.6 percent of all students were at or above the 56 percent proficiency standard in math, a decline of 5.7 percent.

Recently, the superintendent announced his decision to leave in Nov 2009. He is leaving the Board with minimal notice and few options for finding the critical strong leadership critically need by this district.

  • Not a lot of cultural opportunities or even jobs available in the area. Did not assist students with special circumstances, sink or swim, motivated to graduate and get out of the area.

  • The fact that most of the other reviewers spent a significant amount of their time defending the poor academic performance tells you everything you need to know about the Shikellamy School District. I have witnessed a complete lack of pride and discipline. It reminds me of a under-funded, big-city school stuck in a mainly rural area. Granted, there are students who do well coming out of this school district. However, these students would have done well anywhere.

  • Shikellamy is fundementally a very good school district. It has its problems with a higher number of underperforming sutdents that has more to do with economics than any perceived failure of the district. Because Shikellamy is situated in Northumberland county with one of the highest poplulations receiveing assistance, ssi etc as compared to neighboring counties and school district tends to skew the perception. Imagine if you will, If lewisburg had no Bucknell, or federal prison, or Selinsgrove had no Susquehanna University what would happen to social/economic picture there. That being said, I personally have nephews (and a neice) that have attended or are attending PSU. One who led the graduating class for pre med and is currently at Johns Hopkins. The other nephew is pre-law, and another is archetectual engeneering. Two of my own children have also graduated from Shikellamy and are enrolling in college. I do not accept the notion that Shikellamy kids are lazy. Shikellamy has produced some very excellent results over the years. Again the social ecomonics of Northumberland County have more negative effect than you can imagine, but the School district is a sound one.

  • There's nothing wrong with this school. The grades are poor not because of the teachers, but because students are lazy. I came from Selinsgrove HS, and they have more "motivated" students, but the teachers there are no better than Shikellamy. Laziness is wide spread in the area, not just in the school. I wouldn't be surprised if some students in this school were handed the PSAA and barely read the questions. Just marked some answers to get it over with.

  • This school deserves an A+ because, of the kids in this school. The Academic levels are not the highest but we have sent some kids off to great schools such as Harvard, Brown, and Yale. Our schools sports teams are spectactular when it comes to our Soccer Team, Basketball Team, and our Wrestling Team. People don't understand how great this school is, until you go here, so don't judge it if you don't know the "spirit" of the school, that's why it shouldn't be a C+ it should be an A+.
