  • Sent to LA Times in response to article re: Schools pulling the plug on classroom coffeepots, fridges

    To Whom This May Reach
This sad example, brilliantly, illuminates the consequences from a lack of anticipation and laxity of enforcement respecting human tendency which forever seeks to be less active while yearning for more comfort. Discipline has rapidly devolved to relative obscurity in human conduct. It has led to failure among even those entrusted to stand example to the young. Teachers such as Sharon Schara,’ twice her recommended size, standing in her classroom, without shame, embracing food appliances as a mother would her children, outraged at the imposition of a five minute walk to the designated lounge. A classroom should be simply that, it shouldn’t double for a kitchen and a dining room. What specter does this cast upon the forming generation who is watching; those we demand to defy their own proclivities and spend the bulk of their time learning? Such flagrant behavior was once inconceivable. What happened, you may wonder? It’s our ‘civilized,’ accommodating societies’ constant effort to find a scratch for every itch a person has. It gorges our sense of entitlement. Has the last hope bastion to establish discipline also fallen?

  • We live in a world of technology today! Parents/guardians should have a way of contacting their childrens' teachers in order to keep on top of their academics. Wilson Middle school has this access online. I believe Roosevelt should have it too, since they are from the same school district!
