Description

In this lesson, students will write a comparison and contrast paper of the Baroque and Classical Periods in music.

Goals

Students will learn:
To research information about the Baroque and Classic Periods
To write down important facts
To write a comparison and contrast paper between to music periods

Materials Needed

Music History book or Internet for research
Note cards to write down important facts
Pencils and Erasers
Pens and Whiteouts
Notebook Paper for final essay

Procedure

First, students need to choose a specific topic such as style of music or main characteristics in the Baroque and Classical Periods of music.

Then, they will gather information and write a comparison and contrast essay on the topic they chose.

The research and writing the essay will take longer than one hour. You can split the lesson into two class periods.

You can also have the students do their research at home and write the paper in class.

Grading

You can grade the students on their essay and the important facts about the composer they chose.

You can also grade them on the organization of their essay, sentence structure, paragraph structure, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
