Conversation with __________
In this lesson, students will select a person they would like to know better and write a scene where the student and the famous person meet to discuss a specific event. This person can be a president or another person in history.
This lesson plan can also be used for literature where the studens could select Edgar Allan Poe or another writer in Literature.
First, students will choose a famous person in their history book or literature book.
Then, they will look for information about that person so they can get to know the person’s life and accomplishments.
After that, they will write a scene featuring the famous person and the student.
The scene needs to have a description of the setting, narration, and dialogue between the famous person and the student.
For example, students could choose Edgar Allan Poe. Their scene could be in a setting Poe had in one of his short stories or in a restaurant where the student and Edgar Allan Poe are sitting at a table eating a meal. During their time together, they need to discuss a particular topic.
For example, if the student chooses Edgar Allan Poe, he/she can select one of Poe's short stories and discuss how he wrote his story.
Students need to relate the dialogue and narration to the person and his accomplishments.
You can grade the student on their research efforts, organization of their essay, grammar, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure, and spelling.
