Description

Teacher will create a safety hazard list and discuss personal safety with students.

Goals

To make students aware of their responsibility to protect themselves and remain safe.
Students will learn to identify their personal safety needs.
Students will learn to differentiate between their personal feelings of well-being and their behavior to ensure their own safety.
Students will create a safety safari poster that depicts African animals who are demonstrating proper safety strategies.

Materials Needed

Poster sized art paper.
Pencil, pencil crayons, markers and other art mediums, as desired.
Teacher created safety hazard list.

Procedure

Read students the safety hazard list.
Discuss how students can make good choices in order to be safe.
Discuss how students can choose between their personal feelings and keeping themselves safe.
Have students brainstorm to make a list of safety measures and strategies.
Hand out art paper and materials. Have students create a poster using an African animal to demonstrate good safety strategy.
Each student will present their poster to the class and safety strategies will be discussed.
Students will produce a play about personal safety and safety strategies. (Optional.)

Grading

Students will be graded on class participation, understanding of safety procedures and strategies and the content of the animal safari safety posture that they create.

A- 100 to 90

B - 89 to 80

C - 79 to 70

D - 69 to 60

F - below 60
