  • My son entered this 1st grade year behind the rest of the class. I have found every single staff member to be engaged in improving my son's education. He now is getting all a's and b's and I think this is a wonderful school with a great community feel. I do not at ALL understand any negative comments. These people are wonderful.

  • My child is now in 3rd grade and has been at SMM since PreK. We love the school and would recommend it to family and friends.

  • This school is so bad that teachers with children or relatives that go there are transferring them to other schools. Secretary in front office had granchildren that used to attend, Spanish teacher is not re-enrolling her child, 3rd grade teacher had nieces that attended, but now go to another school.....I recommend looking at some of the many other schools in the surrounding area.

  • My daughter has never been enrolled in a pre-school setting so when it was time for Kindergarten I was beside myself with worry. Well she is in Kindergarten and it is now Jan. I could not be happier. She is so excited to come home daily with new lessons learned that day. She wakes up every morning ready to go to school and go to the activity of the day. Not only am I impressed with her K teacher, I am thoroughly impressed with all the faculty. I joined the parents clud and felt very welcome. Parents come up to me and talk to me and make me feel part of the SMM family. I am a very protective mom and her teacher knew I was very concerned leaving her with strangers. After the first week, we were no longer strangers but family. The office staff are always cheerful and willing to help, the principal is so enthusiastic to push the students to learn and reach their potential, the cafeteria staff always happy to answer your call, and like I said the whole faculty is wonderful and I would recommend this school to anyone. I'm one happy and satisfied parent. Can't wait to see what comes next.

  • I can't even give this school 1 out of 5 rating. I sent my child to this school when Hurricane Katrina closed my children's school indefinitely. It didn't take me long to realize that the teachers here lack the skills and/or desire needed to teach and guide their students. Each day they simply go through the motions; "here kids copy this and by the way there's a test on it tomorrow. " Students are forced to learn at home primarily with the help of us parents because teaching in the classroom does not exist. When a middle school parent told me that in his child's math class all but a few students from the entire class were being tutored by a parent or a professional tutor, I withdrew my child's registration for the next year. I have never looked back. My child is now learning in the Classroom. I never thought that would be something I would have to worry about. My child also has good role models now with positive attitudes from teachers who are both qualified and motivated to teach. SMM has a long, long way to go before it can consider itself a true school.

  • This school lacks quality teachers who actually teach the lessons. At SMM the teachers are lazy and do not teach. Every day, classroom lessons consist of spending the entire period COPYING notes that were extracted by a teacher (probably years ago) into a notebook for two to three days. The notes consist of up to 100 or more facts. After the second day or so of copying the notes, a test is then given- -never allowing sufficient time to memorize so many facts at one time. Because of a lack of classroom discussion and notes that are insufficient, my child frequently didn't even know what topic they were actually studying. Example of notes: Question "What did John do" ; Answer: He traveled around the world. Teachers and staff are not friendly or helpful and warm smiles are very rare. Its sad to say, but the activity teachers such as art, PE, music and Spanish are better at teaching their subjects than the teachers in the basic, core subjects are. Enrollment is down significantly because of parents fed up with this school that shows no interest in true teaching. There are several other Catholic schools in the immediate area and I would direct any parent with an elementary school aged child to any of the other schools before I would recommend this one. Sad, but true. Submitted by a regretful SMM parent
