  • I loved South Lancaster Academy. I graduated almost 4 years ago, and I have missed it ever since. It's a small school, and because of that very close relationships develop among students, and between students and teachers as well. As a student there I always felt that I was cared about, and teachers were really willing to help and meet each student's needs.

One downfall of SLA, is that because there are so few teachers, there is less of a variety of classes to choose from. Electives are limited, and advanced and ap classes don't exist. However, the school does make up for it by being extremely flexible. Coming from public school, I entered as a freshman and was placed, at my mother's request, into junior math and sophmore history. A few years later during one of my free periods one of the teachers and I revived the newspaper and published the entire thing ourselves simply because we wanted to.

I'm a firm believer that high school is most important because it teaches kids about life, and how to learn, not because of the facts that are taught. I was given a great foundation at SLA.

There are a few sports played at SLA- basketball, volleyball, and cross country. Because of the few students to choose from, the teams are not going to be the highest quality out there, though they have made it to the playoffs quite a few times in recent years. However, the support for the teams is unmatched. It has been said for many years that SLA has the loudest gymnasium in the state on game night, and I have been witness to that.

Most importantly, it is a school founded on Christian values and principles and these are shown in everything. The daily worships and prayer before classes, as well as the openness of other students and faculty makes it a very spiritually nurturing environment. I never felt strange for my beliefs and it was wonderful to be in a place where so many other people believed the same things as me.

SLA became like a family to me, and I will be eternally grateful for the lessons learned and relationships made there.
