School Description

The Big Apple Academy is a coeducational independent school for students enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Academy occupies two modern facilities located in the Gravesend area of Brooklyn, NY.

The Big Apple Academy strives to create an informal learning environment where students develop their character, mind and body. The greatest asset of our private school is the close-knit relationships between faculty and students. It is our firm belief that from this relationship students sharpen their most essential skill sets: thinking critically and analyzing, exploring and practicing through a broad array of human thoughts and accomplishments extending to the humanities, mathematics, the sciences, the arts and athletics.

Our students have access to the latest educational technology by having their lessons scheduled in state-of-the-art computer classes. Scientific experiments are regularly conducted through the use of microscopes and other tools geared toward scientific discovery and research. All classes are equipped with TV’s and DVD players as well as other materials produced by the school for didactic purposes.

  • My daughter is finishing up 1st grade and after working really hard with her this whole year I see an enormous progress the kids are making. My kid is not a perfect example as she has a hard time behaving, however, is pretty bright girl and likes to be challenged. The kids are definitely kept busy throughout the year with extensive homework assignments and even though I was initially a big advocate of public education as I was educated in public schools myself I am happy to see a positive outcome of making a decision and putting my child in a private school. I completely disagree to the point that kids are materialistic and somewhat negative, as I never had any special requests from my daughter about clothes, shoes, backpacks or anything like that.

  • I absolutely agree with the previous comment. Ignorant administration. Staff is rude, unprofessional, lacks pedagogical experience. They try to save money on everything and over crowd their classes up to 30 kids in K. My child was unfairly treated and verbally abused, when I went to school to school's (...), I received very hostile, unprofessional treatment.

  • school proved that ignorance is ruling. wrong communication, disrespectful attitude, poor presentation of the russian community. My child was verbally abused and when I approached the principal he refused to reply. Had to involve the Dept of Education to resolve that matter.
