  • As a parent of two alumni students I thank the St. Demetrios school an community for their love, care and great education that my children received throughout the thirteen years of their education. My children were fortunate to receive a quality education along with the Hellenic foundations and a strong sense of our Orthodox faith. Thank you St Demetrios

  • As an alumni of St. D, (currently employed at a public H.S. in the ghetto working with emotionally disturbed ) felt that after reading some of these reviews I should state my opinion
    Every school has its pros/cons.
My parents sent me to St.D because they wanted me to learn Greek. When visiting Greece everyone thinks that i live there, that's how good my greek is. In response to some of the opinions. In terms of drugs and sex.. that unfortunately is a part of teen life.At St. D they taught me MANNERS which many teens lack. They taught to me to RESPECT certain authority which does not exist in the public schools.Im not going to lie I've had my share of not so nice teachers at StD but looking back they controlled the situation. They called home every time you were absent or cutting. There was consequenses to bad behavior. I could go on.... Bottom line is that I am tired of hearing bad things about the school. We were about 40 seniors and most of us became lawyers, doctors, psychologists, teachers etc. Of course there were some who didnt go on to college but you know what they had a good back bone and became successful anyway. We were taught to love our culture and be proud to be Greek. As for going to a school out of fear for other races????As a parent and a psychologist(in the ghetto) GUESS WHAT if I could afford it my child will go to private school because there are some rough teens out there that make St.D teens look like angels.
Thank You St D's for making me a Respectful and Successful Adult!!!!!

  • I give this school an A+ too. The atmosphere is very welcoming and adheres to strict academic standards. I am very happy with both my kids who attend here and their grades have gone up considerably since they started. The teachers could be paid more to enhance them to stay, but I would never take my kids out. I did that once and regretted it terribly. Mr Koularmanis is an excellent principal too!

  • I disagree with the grade of f. St. demetrios is a wonderful and warm school. The teachers and administration go above and the beyond the call of duty. the school has had extreme success as far as testing and cllege acceptances. The people that write unsatisfactory reports are theose parents whose students have either been asked toleave for academic and/or discipline problems. Congratualtions St. Demetrios and keep up the good work.

  • Considering that this is one of the few greek american schools in nyc you would think that the school itself would be welcoming, affordable, include great staff and teachers, and would have a sense of reassurance of leaving your children there. This school is a sponge and money is it's water, the tuition is out of this world, the teachers are unprofessional and it leaves you (parents) feeling crazed about how outrageous the school is.

Numerous student have left the school due to these circumstances, and the inconsideration still continues from the school, tuition has magically gone up, and once again new teachers have been brought in to try and teach our students.

Hopefully someone reads this and takes this matter seriously and makes some changes towards the school.
