  • Neighborhood Schoolhouse is the sort of place that restores your faith in humanity. I am continually struck by the amazing students and teachers here. Watching the interactions, there is a palpable sense of mutual respect. The children's social growth is considered equally integral to their academic success, and this shows in their ability to interact cooperatively and resolve conflicts constructively. Open-ended play and time outdoors are highly valued and their role in fostering academic success is recognized here. Each child is nurtured and allowed to flourish through an individualized approach with gentle encouragement. As plainly evidenced when observing the weekly "All School Sing" in which exuberant voices blend while smaller children snuggle in the laps of the teachers and their older child "buddies", this is a true community. By the way, the stats listed on this site are not accurate. I'm not sure when they are from, but during the 2010-2011 school year there has been a greater percentage of students in grades 1-6 (16 in all) and there are 4 full-time teachers and 4 part-time teachers school-wide.
