  • What do you do with a bright kid who is intensely hungry for more knowledge -- yet starting to get bored and restless in public elementary school? Odyssey has the answer.

The school doesn't just provide a challenging, mind-expanding curriculum (full of new adventures in Shakespeare, world history, Japanese, math, science and writing.) That alone would make the Odyssey experience worthwhile, but the school also offers great lessons in everyday life.

Students learn to swim and to clean up the school grounds. They learn to carry themselves well on ambitious field trips, and to help the elderly and disabled on community-service days. They come home more curious about world cuisine, more familiar with the old-fashioned words "please" and "thank you," and much more relaxed about whether they are fitting in with friends.

Part of the Odyssey culture is to throw a lot of challenges at kids, one after another. The first year can have its tough moments. But along the way, students somehow learn to budget time, set priorities and accept that they can't always be perfect at everything, but they can make an honest effort. It adds up to a great education and a great part of maturation.
