  • Alright school when I was there. I would have rated it a C but the rating took a big hit when I heard you guys arrested a 10 year old girl who was cutting food with a knife...as in using a knife for it's most prominent purpose. Congratulations on over-reacting, scarring an innocent child, and ruining your reputation.

  • Unbelievable that school staff are so dumb as to call the cops for a steak knife. No amount of education could have helped staff with no common sense at all. Do not hide behind "it's policy". That excuse has been used so many times it's ridiculous. I would not want my children educated there by staff with as little going for them upstairs as is apparent there.

    Disgraceful.
Let's go through all the Staff's desks and make sure there isn't anything in there that might be a weapon!

  • Any school that calls the police and suspends a student for using a knife to cut her lunch is inviting public ridicule and shame. The teachers who called the police should be reprimanded. The moronic principal who suspended the girl should be replaced with someone who has common sense. If the school board supports this insane behavior, they should be voted out of office ASAP.

IT DOES MATTER WHAT THE KNIFE WAS BEING USED FOR!

  • For calling the police to take a knife away from a 10 year child i am forced to rate this school as UNSATISFACTORY.

Taking into account, that said knife was used by the child to cut food and that it obviously wasn't aware of violating any rules, it would have been completely sufficient to take away the knife, tell her about the rules and perhaps call the parents and tell them about the 'situation'.

At least the child wasn't tasered.

How low does a society has to fall down to take above remark as something positive?

If this is an example of the kind of social education kids receive in the USA, well, that`s quite sad.

  • An elementary student in Marion County was arrested Thursday after school officials found her cutting food during lunch with a knife that she brought from home, police said.

The 10-year-old girl, a student at Sunrise Elementary School in Ocala, was charged possession of a weapon on school property, which is a felony.

According to authorities, school employees spotted the girl cutting her food while she was eating lunch and took the steak knife from her....WOW

  • Protection of our students is important, but arresting a 10 year old for having a knife at the table while eating lunch is overkill. Sure ignorance of the rules is not an excuse, but isn't it the job of a school to teach students these safety rules? Apparently the school failed. And since there is a zero tolerance policy regarding safety, I have no choice but to give the school an F, for failing to teach these important rules to their own students.

  • Having a student arrested on a felony for cutting her food with a knife brought from home.

Graded the school with a "F" for a outright "Fascist" action.

  • I find that having a student arrested for cutting food at lunchtime is a bit extreme. Shame on the administration!

  • This school employs such mind numbingly stupid people that they recently arrested and jailed a ten year old girl for cutting her food with a knife.
Now granted, American table manners are so horrific that using cutlery is bound to amaze, I cannot imagine it also being a felony, but it is.
So this food cutting child was transported to a juvenile center where I am sure her education continues with the high standards of this school.
