  • I, too, had the best times of my life at this school and met friends I have cherished for a lifetime. Loved Teach and spent what seems like half my life in the shelter court. So much fun. Some of the teachers were a little crazy; a couple were great. I graduated in 1968 and the school tragically changed for the worse not long afterward. What a shame. By the way, About the basement toilets- do you remember the spring-loaded seats that would violently propel you against the wall if you so much as shifted? (at least when you were little). And you had to decide how much toilet paper you needed and get it before you went to the stall? I dreaded that bathroom.

  • i went to this school as a little girl and i have the best memories of my young child hood here... The best neighborhood ever In the 1960's i was a young girl going to this school. Our last name was Doherty My Father and mother was Joseph And Delores Doherty I was one of eight children and my most fondest memories were of the shelter courts and our mentor {Teach,Helen Toff}
    Jack, thats all i can remember him by, was the man that took care of the boys at the after school programs. They are the most memorable times of my childhood and i was so lucky to have that at that time of my little life.. I can remember the bathrooms on the lower level of the school and they still had frosted glass on the doors. The bathrooms had old fashioned toilets where you had no doors on them The auditoriums is where we used to take our class pictures. On the stage. The gym seemed like it had secret passages
    to go thru to get out side. Mr. Leones
    was our gym teacher and my first grade class was on the first floor by a stairway. If i were looking west in the hallway it would have been the first room on the left side of the hall. We had chalk broads that would slide up and down and the girls would have to go behind and change our pants into dresses....How crazy is that . Our desks still had holes for ink and they were bolted to the floor My first grade teacher was I think miss brennor and the principal was Mr. Swyrne I think Thats how it was spelled. If any of this interest you let me know!!!! Best times of my young life. Mrs. Maxwell became a client of mine later in my life and i remembered her. So many good stories Kathleen F Doherty/ Granata
