  • Some teachers horrible abd some are decent, but even if your child is lucky enough to get a decent teacher the school runs in a way that makes it understandable why Christian County is one of the lowest in ranks in terms of education. I let my son go for two year when we first moved here. He is a very intelligent and polite child. This was for K and 1st grade... he had his things stolen often from the other children, who were already coming to class with fake grills and sagging pants. He started coming home with the attitudes he learned from his classmates, including mocking people behind their backs. He started getting in trouble daily for talking. I went to the school to discover what on Earth was going on...this was first grade. (I won't even go into the horrible dealings with the teacher of K)The 1st grade teacher was a good teacher, but for the 4 weeks that I assisted her, it was sad what was I saw happening. One tacher to 22 students, and an assistant that only came in one hour a day. Some of the children should have never left kindergarten as they had no number or letter recognition at all. However do to the laws of KY they will continue up the grade chain, no matter their lack of actual knowledge. Almost every week the teacher was having to take children aside to test them one one one, by school rules, which left 21 children, most of whom had no idea what to do on the worksheets, to wreak havoc. My son always finished his work quickly and easily which left him with nothing to do but to talk to the children, who were not doing their work. I spent my time, almost continuously at a desk just trying to help the children understand their work. It was a great deal of work for 2-3 people let alone, one solitary teacher trying to teach, follow the schools demands, and keep her class unde control. It did't help, of course, that the parents of these children don't put forth the effort of working with them at home. In between what he wasn't learning at school knowledge wise and what he was learning in attitude and acting out I decided to take him out of the school system and educate him from home. He loves it! He has cut the attitude and really gets into learning. Btw, we are not religeous people and chose to homeschool for the aforementioned reasons not due to spiritual beliefs as so many people are inclined to think of homeschoolers.
