  • I have had one child go through Walker Winter and one still attending. I truly believe that you will not find a more caring and involved staff. Mrs. Mytych is an incredible leader. She truly leads by example. Whatever time of day you go into the school, whether it is 7:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m., you will find teachers and staff working tirelessly.

  • Fall of 2009 I was a student teacher at Walker Winter. My experiences with the staff and students was memorable. The principal was wonderful. She was very supportive of the staff, students, and parents. She strives hard to make learning a priority. My cooperative teacher was amazing! If I had kids this is a school I would be very comfortable sending them to.

  • I am abolutely pleased that my family is in the Wayne-Westland District and that my children (good students) attend Walker-Winter Elementary School. I can say, without issue or hesitancy, that the administrator and the teachers are professional, that they care about the children, and that providing a quality educational experience is a priority. The Principal and the teachers are personable and interested in building and maintaining quality relationships with parents...they are responsive and they respectfully receive and address all comments, questions, or concerns that do not involve personal agendas. I unequivocally support the Principal, her leadership, and her administration.

  • I have a 14-year-old who attended Walker-Winter and an 8-year-old who presently attends. I have been there through 4 different administrators. I can't begin to tell you how fabulous Mrs. Mytych is, not only with the students, but with the parents as well!! I was so worried with the new configuration of the district that we would lose her, but we didn't!!! I look at Walker-Winter as the best kept secret in the district!!

  • In response to the comment about the teacher being "afraid of math" (January 26 post)...my child is also in 5th grade and I recall the teacher in question mentioning at open house that as a child there was a fear of math and that the hope was that the students would not feel this way. I also feel that describing children as "good" and "bad" is not only unprofessional but highly inappropriate and offensive. I have had nothing but great experiences at Walker and will be deeply saddened when my child moves on.

  • I have been a teacher at this school for 15 years. I can honestly say that this entire staff works really hard to meet, and accomodate the various needs of all of our students. We do believe that ALL children can learn and we have put many extra programs in place to ensure success for all. Our new principal has showed enormous support for staff, students, and parents. There is no place I would rather teach!

  • I have had a good xperience as a parent at Walker. Because of twins, my kids always got two teachers in every grade. This year third grade is great. The teachers are different from each other, but really especially good for each of my boys. I don't have girls so I can't say. I am very pleased.

  • The principal is too passive and not really interested in dealing with issues; she just wants them to go away. The school is NOT responsive to parents. The teachers are good for the most part but the 5th grade teacher says she is "afraid of math!" I feel this is a lost year in my child's academic growth. The student population has been changing and many of the "good" students are now leaving this school.

  • I went to walker winter when I was little. Once I got into middle school and high school I was one of the top students in all of my classes. I highly recommend sending your kids to this school.

  • Overall this school is average. There is a new principal this year as well as secretary and teachers. I was very disappointed to find out my son's first grade teacher is computer illiterate. She is also absent a lot, barely assigns homework and doesn't keep parents abreast with newsletters. I know he is learning but I think it could be better. I will not be sending my son back in the fall.

  • The school administration is NOT very responsive to parents. The principal is really not interested in talking to the students or getting to know them as people. She is not a parent and not married and this makes her out of touch with the student body. The teachers and the curriculum are great!!!
