  • Sutton Central School was built in 1955, after years of public fund raising. Prior to that, elementary students went to three different one-room schools in the three villages: Grades one and two were taught at the N. Sutton School on North Rd. leading into North Sutton. Grades 3-4 were taught at the school building, just south of the present school. Grades 5-6 were taught at the old South Sutton school directly behind the church/community center. George G. Wells, South Sutton, recently deceased, was president of the school board and was instrumental in bringing modern educational facilities to the Sutton area.
