  • I have been associated with Oakley Elementary School for over 35 years. In the late 70's the school was under a principal that came from the High School that chewed and spit tobacco in front of the children and teachers. What does that tell us? Then they had a principal that was wonderful! She soon became Superintendent of City Schools. After that the leadership at the school has gone down to the dumps. The principal now is very immature (wants to be friends with the students than discipline them). What the school needs is discipline, and I mean REAL discipline by leaders who CAN discipline. The ONLY positive thing I can say is most of the Teaching Staff, assistants, lunchroom ladies, and custodians are GREAT! They care more about the students and the school than the principal! Many teachers take children and buy their school supplies and clothes out of their OWN pockets! The Teaching Staff, assistants, lunchroom ladies, and custodians are the ones who should be recognized over and over again!

  • Everyone in my family has gone to Oakley Elementary and now that I am older, my son goes there too. He is in second grade now(been there since kindergarten) and loves it. I have nothing but good things to say about this school.

  • Don't send your kids to Oakley Elementary. I'm a former student of the school, and have worked for many years with both the teachers and students. I think I know what I'm talking about when I say that the teachers are awful, especially the ones belonging to kindergarten and first and second grade, except for just a couple. The administration of Oakley Elementary obviously don't take the time to make sure that most of the teachers hired are in any way professional or even good at their job. I've personally heard kindergarten, first and second grade teachers threaten their students even to the point of making them cry, and say terrible things about their parents and lifestyles, and other such things, right to their faces. I was once working in a kindergarten class in which there was a little girl who came from a really dirt-poor family. Her mother had been married eight times, and was divorced again with another boyfriend. The kid was four years old and was proud to be able to remember, in order, all her last names. And when she was telling her teacher about all her past ''daddies'', the teacher gave her the ugliest look possible and said, as loudly as possible in front of the class, all this stuff about how no one else in the world has had their mother be married as many times as her mother had, and even worse things about the little girl's mother, her household, etc. It was awful. And what's worse, is that the assistant teacher for that classroom started laughing, and made the poor kid cry, after this story was told. Other students proceeded to make fun of her. This whole episode was reported to an administrator, and there were even witnesses to the teachers behaving in this way, but not a single thing was done to force them to better their classroom management.

That's not even the worse thing I've seen happen involving teacher conduct in Oakley Elementary in all the ten years I've been associated with the place.

  • I have been associated with Oakley School for many, many years. I have seen this school go down hill tremendously. The school has not had decent discipline in many years. The strong teachers that do discipline, are looked down upon. The principal now, does not take his job seriously. According to the children he comes around every morning and yells "Good Morning," and disturbs the teachers teaching and the students learning. He does many immature things in front of the teachers and students. The assistant principal appears to be lazy, getting to school way after the teachers, and almost beats the buses out in the afternoons. I really like the dedicated faculty, staff, lunchroom ladies, and custodians. It is a shame the school can not be run better than it is.
