  • Good Philosophy, disjointed staff! My son has been going here since kindergarten and every year with the exception of 1st grade (he is now in 3rd) there has always been lacking support in what I would consider to be an utter failure on Farmington Woods part. My wife and I have our own short comings do to job responsibilities however recently we feel as if it would be better if we had time to home school our son since he does not seem to get anything done in school and it all comes home to be completed in addition to his homework assignments. Emails and phone calls to the counselor have gone unanswered or have not been followed up on. In reading Farmington Woods rather lengthy philosophy which btw sounds great on paper we have seen little to no sign of the checks and balances designed to protect our child's education and facilitate learning. His current teacher occasionally emails us to explain what I would consider her failure stating things like "he has not been able to get anything done at school" or "because he chooses not to do the project" come on he is 8 years old why is a 3rd grader aloud to choose what they feel like doing or not? Additionally replies to her emails have also gone unanswered. I understand he is not the only student in the class that needs attention but a little backbone and leadership is what most kids this age need and this year he has had very little structure in this area from this teacher. There are several other nit-picky things I won’t bother mentioning but if you are looking for something special at Farmington Woods don’t get your hopes up. In our opinion this school is just as good or as bad as any other elementary school under the Department of Education. International Baccalaureate / PYP is a just a title don’t be fooled into thinking your child is getting more then a standard public education.

  • My daughter started kdg here on a Tues and by Thurs was getting her head bit off by her teacher for not being able to "cut paper". My daughter suffers from hand tremors and was not able to handle scissors and this was explained to all of the staff on her first day of school. That night my daughter baracaded herself in her bedroom screaming and crying uncontrollably about how useless she was. The principal is about the least friendly person I have ever met and has been just plane rude every single time I've tried to talk to her. The front office staff acts like they work in a prison and treated me like a child and like I was just not welcomed in their school when I came to give my daughter her meds on the first day of school. They also had my daughter walk down to the office by herself that first day from the gym, other side of building, and she got lost and ended up in tears and they simply said I just needed to leave and she would get over it. In fact even the teacher made a point in her "new parent manuel" to let all of the parents know that volunteers in the classroom were "just not welcomed". There are two bright shinning stars in that building and the only reason they got one apple instead of zero was because of them and they are the new part time assistant principal, Ms. Johnson and the counselor who was over the top nice to my daughter and helped her make it through her first day. I researched this school for months and we were so excited all summer and it has been the biggest let down we have had since moving to NC from MI.
