  • As a returned new resident to Hilliard area, I find that Memorial Middle has been very helpful and encouraging my Son academically. However, my disappointment come to the athletic department. I have talked with and over heard several parents disappointment of the football program. Sure we all want our kids to be superstars on the football field. But this isn't the case here. The fundamental issues here is that middle school football is about developing all the kids (not only a handful that a coach plays.... 15 players out of 40+ kids on the team). The school my son came from had the equal amount of kids on his team and the coaching staff made it a point to develop each player to PREPARE them for high school level (as middle school football isn't about win-loss but about developing individuals for the next level where wins and losses counts). The point can be summed up like this: A coach from another team came off the field after defeating MMS and stated to this parent "I looked at the size of that team [MMS] and thought we were going to have a hard time but when we figured that only 13 kids were playing on both side [defense and offense] we knew it was just another game." enclosing, our kids all practice hard, PAID their fees just to sit out the whole year watching when they could of participated in their most needed informal year of football.

Education is about teaching and teaching football is about learning, therefore, the opportunity to perform is to show what we are taught.
