  • This is a good school that should be a lot better.

Bucknell and Geisinger mean there are lots of bright kids with actively involved parents. This helps keep standardized test scores high, which helps with rankings such as US News.

While some of the teachers are so so, some are excellent. The school offers great extracurriculars and sports, and the school's small size means everyone gets a chance to participate. Course work is not terribly demanding, even within the AP courses, and as a result many of the kids taking AP classes opt out of the exam because they aren't really prepared. College placement is poor given the quality of the student body, perhaps reflecting poor efforts by the guidance counselors, or perhaps reflecting the administration's not caring about top college placement.

The principal is a very nice person, but a mediocrity. I would much rather have him as a neighbor than as the person setting the tone for my child's education. There's a strong social conservative element in the school faculty and administration, and if your child has recognized divergent political or religious views, there can be subtle but nonetheless real blowback. The church/state separation thing doesn't quite apply in rural Pennsylvania.

The school is totally safe physically, and cliques and bullying are not a big problem. The school facility is nothing fancy, but more than adequate.

This is the best choice in the immediate area for academically oriented parents. It could be a lot better, but that would require an administration with more vision.
