  • Killeen HS gave me the opportunity to learn a different culture. I'm not talking about ethnicity or race. I'm talking about the military. Since I've been in college I've noticed many other people have a hard time adjusting to the different ethnicities, races, and cultures that clash on campus. I've learned that because KHS and Killeen in general is a military school/town, I didn't have a culture shock. Anyone who says Killeen HS is not diverse is blindfolded. It doesn't matter where the school is located, there are more than enough great teachers that are willing to make a difference in any student's life, in or out of the school. The location of the school is where it needs to be, close in proximity to the population that it serves. The surrounding neighborhood is what it is, there are no conditions set in stone that describe what the neighborhoods surrounding a HS should look like. Students, your fellow classmates live in these neighborhoods! As for "ghetto" and acting "ghetto," people are always going to act "ghetto." Sadly its a trend set by popular culture. In college sometimes its fratty (fraternities) but it is the way people act. It doesn't define the person particularly or the group they hang out with. Its an act. But that's their business, it doesn't define the school or the strides the school has made academically. Yes, I read the campus improvement plan and saw the test scores and if I may say, KHS congrats! You're all doing a great job! So before you get on here talking about hoods (boro, glen, L, 41; yes I know what I'm talking about), "ghetto people", the location of the school, the staff, and the administration, ask yourself, "What have I done to improve myself as a student? What have I done to ensure that my son/daughter's school is getting enough parent participation/involvement/cooperation? What can I do to improve my campus/school? What can I do for my community?" Public education isn't being utilized the way it should be. Teachers shouldn't have to discipline 85-90% of the time. If we took every student that didn't care and replaced him with a student from a country that doesn't have public schooling our success rate would sky-rocket. Don't always assume the problem is with the school, teachers, admin, or district. Look in the mirror and see what you can do differently.

  • Killeen School District is one of the best compared to some schools around Miltary bases. I don't agree with the comment about the hoodlums. Background are different where ever you go.
Being Military does not protect a school from being in a certain area. I was born and raised Military and my children have attended Killeen schools just like attended. This is a very narrow way of thinking. I have always enjoyed the school my children attended while in Killeen.

  • My husband, brother, in-laws, AND I went to KHS, and to clash with the other comment, the school is NOT surrounded by ghetto neighborhoods. The Atkinson area by the tennis courts is a very nice neighborhood. Westcliff is down the road passing nice neighborhood. The Jeffries/Zephyr have old houses, but definitely NOT ghetto. My family lived in a ghetto

  • Killeen high isn't very diverse. Many military kids live here but act like hoodlums just like the civilian kids. the teachers work very well with kids who want to learn though. The school is located around ghetto neighborhoods, therefore it has the image of being ghetto and low class.
