  • As a community member reading the comments written by students attending Fred Lynn - I detect a much bigger problem to worry about than "uniforms." Focus needs to be reverted back to academic excellence. Please! The writing skills exemplified below are horrible. However, I do think uniforms is the answer to ensuring that students dress as such "students" and not (...) or (...).

  • First- I suspect some of the comments must be from miserable, spoiled, narrow-minded, elitest and/or underexposed folks who would complain under the of best situations. That is just what they do--it is always about them....and if it is not what I deem to be acceptable by my standards not matter how warped or skewed they may or may not be --then it is simply bad or wrong....

The school has some challeges but has made strides over the last few years that are commendable. More work needs to be done but that is understandable and will happen as long the principal is allowed to her job, the teachers step up to the plate and we get more parental participation especially from those who historically do not particpate (they are often the ones with the "challenging" students).

***students: please take the time to learn how to think and learn to make a coherent argument/complaint. It is painfully apparent that you have not. Rather than worrying about clothes and people only saying things that you want to hear--worry about improving the skills that you will need so that the rest of your life is not spent struggling to make ends meet on the lowest rungs of society or cycling in and out of prison. That being said.

**Uniform argument is a non-starter--Have way too many more truly things to be concerned with....small minds worry about small things.....If you do not think so check out the stats for American students tackling higher end science/math degree types versus a lot of the Asian/Indian students coming into the country. We are lagging behind at an alarming rate...........UNIFORMS are not your problem......move on.

    1) My son is on schedule to start algebra and will be entering his second year of spanish meaning he will enter high school with both math and foreign language credits. Check

    2) The school services a high number of economically/socially disadvantaged students and has its own special set of challenges. People either overly downplay the challenges facing handicapped (for a lack of better word) populations or sufficiently show their ignorance/superiority complex. Either case being unacceptable.

    3) The principal is a bit strong-willed and brash but given the circumstances it is required and necessary to bring about the change needed to move forward and address the challenges inherent when working in certain environments. She is doing exactly what needs to be done. Good for Her!!! KIDS: Newsflash...you may not always like your boss --not required--sooooooooo suck it up and move on---Lesson that should be learned early in life. She is there to do her job and you are there to do your job so get over it and perform or in about 6 years you will have no one to blame but yourself.

    4) There are some really great teachers there unfortunately there are some who are there to simply collect a check and have been allowed to do that for years and may be unhappy with the current administration requiring them to step up and DO THEIR JOB. If you (teacher) have low expectations for students becuase you are either lazy or have dim expectations for low-income/minority populations or a combination issue then you should move along--YOU and YOUR INADEQUATE services are no longer wanted. NEEDED: teachers with high expectations for both themselves and their students. You chose to go into education so put on your big kid panties and keep it moving.

    5) Teachers all over the place complain about supplies, administration, etc.-nothing new here -move along. Parental assistance would be helpful in this arena. Be the change that you would like see!!

    6) Compare the scores as a whole and individual sections. Understand the dynamics of education, the community, social/cultural impacts, etc. Educate yourself and do not simply accept off the cuff opinions (ex: Woodbridge is no soaring star....)

  • As a teacher, I will say that many of the comments reflected here in the other posts are accurate. I don't believe that the person who spelled racist as "racess" is a staff member, but perhaps someone ( a student?) who used this identity as a cover. The teachers at this school are incredible. The administration is unfair, with chaotic policies (such as multiple schedule changes) that actually incite bad behavior in the students and negative morale amongst staff. The uniform policy has improved behavior, and wasn't as big an issue as some may believe. Other issues related to scheduling, unpredictability, supplies, testing schedules, favoritism, and a lack of support for new teachers, had a greater impact on overall school climate this year. For new parents coming into the school, I encourage you to get involved. Make your voice heard and be your child's best advocate.
